June 9th, 2018 is Oregon's "Get Outdoors Day". We think this is the perfect day to invite our community to a rare treat: A guided hike led by Todd Kepple of the Klamath County Museum and Steve Sheehy, local Lichenologist on a rare property. Also, birding specialist, Theresa Wicks of the Great Outdoors Alliance will be assisting with this hike. The Caledonia property offers a rare Oregon white oak woodland...rare in that it's the one of the only Oregon white oak woodlands found this far east of the Cascades. Over 80 bird species have been identified on this land, plus rare plants and lichen grow here.
This hike is considered "Moderate" difficulty. Please bring water and snacks and wear comfortable clothing. A hat, sunscreen, and bug repellent are recommended.
For this outing, we will be meeting at the KLLT office at 212 South 9th Street, K. Falls at 9:00 AM and departing from there. The site is 12 miles north of Klamath Falls off of highway 140, just past the Running Y Resort.
